Signed Into Law: Supporting Local Law Enforcement

August 12, 2019 | Blog, Safety

Local law enforcement are the first ones to show up when our community faces danger or tragedy. These officers are responsible for helping people through some of the most difficult moments in their lives – all while keeping our community safe. We are definitely in there debt, and there’s no doubt that it often takes a toll on their own well-being.

That’s why we recently passed a new law, called the Supporting and Treating Officers in Crisis Act, to support mental health and reduce suicide in the law enforcement community.

Specifically, the bill authorizes:

  • Counseling for personnel exposed to infectious disease
  • Counseling for families of officers killed, injured or permanently disabled in the line of duty
  • Training to recognize, report, and respond to officer mental health crises and suicide

It’s my hope that this legislation will provide support to the men and women who keep us safe!
