March 4, 2022 | Press Releases

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Brian Mast (FL-18) and the U.S. Postal Service today celebrated the renaming of the Port Salerno facility to honor fallen hero, Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Joseph Bullock.

Rep. Mast introduced legislation to rename the local post office after Trooper Bullock, who was killed in the line of duty in 2020.  The legislation was signed into law by the President in January of 2021.

“A hero is someone who runs toward the danger while others are running away.  Trooper Bullock certainly fits that definition,” Rep. Mast said.  “He had dedicated his life to service and to his neighbors. He set an example that everyone should remember and strive to follow.  Naming this facility the ‘Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Joseph Bullock Post Office’ will serve as a powerful reminder for the Port Salerno community for generations to come.”

“I want to thank Representative Mast for sponsoring this legislation. We truly are honored to have the Port Salerno Post Office Building dedicated to Trooper Bullock. I’m sure each of us will take a moment to reflect upon Trooper Bullock’s service and sacrifice each time we enter the building.”

Trooper Bullock was fatally shot on February 5, 2020, while assisting a disabled vehicle in Martin County, Fla. Trooper Bullock spent his career protecting the people of Florida, serving as a member of the Florida Highway Patrol for 19 years. Prior to serving on the Florida Highway Patrol, Trooper Bullock served our nation in the United States Air Force.
