Protecting Hunting and Archery Programs

September 27, 2023 | Blog

When I was a kid, my grandfather gifted me my first membership to the National Rifle Association.  Now that I’m a dad, I love teaching my own kids about responsible gun ownership and spending time with them at the range.  It’s a family tradition that we all cherish.

That’s why I was angry to learn that President Biden’s Department of Education had blocked funding for sportsman programs in public schools.

Thankfully, the U.S. House of Representatives took action this week to undo the rule and I was glad to vote in favor of the Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education Act.  It passed the House with an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 424 to 1, which shows that even Democrats realize that stopping funds and trying to keep kids from being able to participate in school archery programs or hunting safety courses is just plain stupid.

There are families like mine in every state that appreciate the tradition of hunting and shooting, and this Administration needs to respect that.  I hope that the Senate will quickly send it to the President’s desk to send a clear message that the Department of Education’s regulation seriously missed the mark.
