Week In Review: October 27 – November 2 | This Doesn’t Take a Genius

November 4, 2023 | Blog, Week In Review

This week, Congress worked on some truly common sense policies. From making sure the United States is not rewarding terrorists, to prioritizing veterans over empty buildings, it was a week spent making sure your tax dollars weren’t wasted on things that are directly contradicting American values.

The House of Representatives passed my bill, the Hamas International Financing Prevention Act, with overwhelming bipartisan support. This legislation would make sure the groups or governments that financed the terrorist attacks on October 7th are cut off from the American economy completely. Now, it’s up to the Senate to send it to the President’s desk.

Also this week, the funding bill for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) proposed using nearly $5 million to renovate HUD’s headquarters. But here’s the problem: HUD’s headquarters is basically empty. I think that money could be put to way better use, which is why I offered an amendment to shift that $5 million to programs that support low-income veterans living with disabilities. Like I said, it’s just common sense.
