Week In Review: November 10 – 16 | What’s the Plan?

November 18, 2023 | Blog, Week In Review

It’s been more than two years since the catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan, but the Biden Administration continues to try and shift blame to President Trump.  The House Foreign Affairs Committee held two hearings this week to determine whether or not that accusation holds water.

In the first hearing, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction – Mr. John Sopko – highlighted the complete and total lack of plan for the tens of billions of dollars that have been sent to Kabul since the Taliban takeover.  He testified that there is “no strategy” behind these decisions.

There was no strategy then, just like there was no strategy in publicly announcing an unconditional withdrawal, and withdrawal date, roughly five months in advance.  That was the decision the panel that I chair, the Subcommittee on Oversight and Accountability, examined in the second hearing.

To learn more about all of this, plus why I voted no on the continuing resolution, check out the latest #WeekInReview.
