Week in Review: American Dominance & Prosperity

January 17, 2026 | Blog, Week In Review

It was another busy week in Washington, and I want to walk you through some important updates with both of my committees.

First off, in the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, I had the opportunity to speak with an official from the U.S. Coast Guard about a new and inconspicuous threat: “ghost-ships.” These vessels operate in the shadows and pose a great risk to the Gulf of America’s  environmental well-being, and our national security at-large. The ships illegally traffic oil and often fail to meet basic safety standards—it’s why they demand our oversight

Then, in the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I held a hearing on America’s position in the AI arms race against the Chinese Communist Party. One thing about this is clear—the use of these chips is not like kids playing war video games. There are consequences. It’s real life, real wars, real weapons, and real casualties. AI dominance will decide who sees first and strikes first in future conflicts. That’s what’s at stake here. I’m proud of the Committee’s efforts and continued commitment to winning  the AI arms race.

All of this, along with my thoughts on a new prescription drug pricing plan, are in my latest Week in Review:
