On September 17, 1787, our nation’s founders penned their names to four pages of parchment in Philadelphia. Two hundred and thirty-nine years later, those pages still remain as the foundation for the greatest nation of earth.

I've sworn an oath to the U.S. Constitution twice: once in the United States Army, and again as your Representative in Congress. It’s an oath that I'm beholden to every single day, and it’s not one I take lightly or for granted. For U.S. Constitution Day this year, I had the honor of sharing what today means to me with students in our community, and you can watch that video here. 

This year, as our country marks 250 years of independence, take a minute to read the Constitution's first three words—we the people—because everything starts there.
