Medal of Sacrifice Act Passes Unanimously

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Brian Mast (R-Florida), U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nevada) applauded the Senate’s unanimous passage of the Medal of Sacrifice Act (H.R. 3497) during National Police Week. The legislation would create a new presidential award to posthumously honor law enforcement officers and other first responders killed in the line of duty. Mast is the lead sponsor of the legislation, which passed the House of Representatives on February 2nd. Graham introduced companion legislation in the Senate and helped ensure its passage.

“I will never forget November 21, 2024, the day three lions of my community were taken after being struck on the side of the road. After we laid Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Deputies Waller, Diaz, and Paez to rest, President Trump and I agreed that their sacrifice can never be forgotten. That’s what the Medal of Sacrifice is all about, and I’ve worked every single day since then to pass this bill to honor every officer and first responder killed in action. In the face of incomprehensible loss, families of the fallen will now know they have a nation standing firmly behind them, directed by the highest office of our land. I am deeply grateful to Senator Graham for sharing this mission and for carrying it across the finish line in the Senate,” said Rep. Mast.

“Our law enforcement officers and first responders represent some of the best and bravest among us. These men and women selflessly put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe. If these law enforcement officers and first responders perish in the line of duty, that sacrifice deserves the highest level of recognition,” said Senator Graham. “I am proud to have worked with President Trump and Rep. Mast on this important legislation so that we can ensure these heroes are never forgotten, and look forward to it being signed into law.”

“Every single day, law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to protect and serve our communities and keep our families safe,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “The Medal of Sacrifice Act will go a long way to honoring those officers who lose their lives in the line of duty. This Police Week, I’m proud to have worked alongside Senator Graham and Congressman Mast to get our bill to the President’s desk.”

The Medal of Sacrifice Act is supported by the National Police Association, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA), the Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA) and the Police Officers Defense Coalition

If we can help even just one veteran avoid narcotic dependency, or turn away from the terrible path that too many of us don’t come back from, it's worth it. They served this country—the least we can do is make sure their doctor is allowed to treat them.

Mast Introduces Bill To Lower Summer Gas Prices

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Brian Mast (FL-21) introduced legislation to lower gas prices nationwide by waiving the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Reid Vapor Pressure (RVP) requirements for the entire 2026 summer season.

“When gas prices spike during the busy summer months, every family feels the effects—regulations passed decades ago, written for vehicles that we don’t produce anymore, are causing more unnecessary strain,” said Rep. Brian Mast. “My bill cuts through the unnecessary regulations and gives families relief where it’s needed most.”

In the United States, nearly every gas station offers gasoline blended with ten percent ethanol, or E10, year-round. Gasoline blended with 15 percent ethanol, or E15, is a cheaper alternative for 2001-and-newer vehicles, offered at roughly 3,500 gas stations across the country. Unfortunately, purchasing E15, the more affordable blend, during summer months is prohibited, and as a result, American families experience cost burdens at the pump.

A 1990 amendment to the Clean Air Act prohibits the sale of E15 gasoline above 9.0 RVP. In previous years, to provide relief, the EPA has been forced to issue rolling 20-day emergency waivers—the maximum length allowed—but this creates uncertainty for producers, retailers, and consumers. The bill directs the EPA Administrator to waive RVP restrictions under section 211(h) of the Clean Air Act from May 1, 2026, through September 15, 2026.

By expanding fuel supply and removing seasonal restrictions, the bill is expected to ease costs for families heading into peak travel months, support American fuel producers, and reduce dependence on repeated emergency waivers.

Three new bills for vets

We’re approaching what’s going to be a monumental summer—the 250th year of our independence. Plans for celebrations, parades, concerts, and exhibitions have all been in the works for years, with good reason, but this occasion also calls on all of us to reflect on why we can celebrate.

Across generations of Americans, the bravest of us have taken an oath to protect our Constitution, risked everything, and fought for us. Without these individuals, we have no country. I’m proud to cosponsor three new resolutions for America’s veterans as we gear up for the semiquincentennial.

I know that nothing, including these proposals, will ever be enough to repay our servicemembers, but this is a meaningful step.

Veterans Tax Relief Weekends—calls on states to set three-day sales tax holidays during Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day weekend, putting money back in the pockets of the men and women who served.

America 250 Military Appreciation Discount—encourages every business nationwide to offer military discounts during our 250th anniversary year, inviting the private sector to express gratitude as well.

Veterans Appreciation Month—designates a national month of recognition during America's 250th year, focused on the millions of veterans who have served and sacrificed for us.

We can do all of this with no new government spending and no new mandates. It’s time for us to honor the patriots who made this year possible in the first place. Veterans deserve all of it and so much more.

This project will store over 78 billion gallons of water and send the clean water south to the Everglades—where it belongs.
