More Tools to Clean up Our Water

October 26, 2021 | Blog

Cleaning up our waterways has huge impacts for tourism, our economy, the environment and public health.

One of the best tools we have at our disposal is the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF), which sends taxpayer dollars back to Florida in order to fund projects that improve water quality. The formula used to determine how much money each state receives, however, hasn’t been updated since 1987.

This fund needs to take into account the changes we’ve seen in the last 34 years.  Florida currently receives one of the lowest sums from the CWSRF, despite having some of the greatest water infrastructure needs in the country.  That’s why I’m cosponsoring the Clean Water Allotment Modernization Act.

This bipartisan legislation will update the fund’s formula to give Florida additional resources that can be used to clean up our waterways.

We need to utilize every possible tool in our fight for clean water, and I’ll continue to advocate for policies like the Clean Water Allotment Modernization Act!
