Week in Review: March 25 – 31 | The Constitution is the Supreme Law of Land

April 2, 2022 | Blog, Week In Review

As a soldier in the Army, and as your Representative in Congress, I swore an oath to defend and uphold the Constitution.  I’m mindful of that oath every single day, and this week was no exception.

On Monday, the President released his budget for the next year, and I was incredibly grateful that the Constitution says that Congress holds the power of the purse – not the President.  While he can make suggestions with his budget proposal, Congress is the branch that decides how to spend your tax dollars.  And that’s a good thing because the President’s budget failed to lay out any clear objectives.  It would just flush your money down the drain.  Especially as inflation continues to soar, the government has a responsibility to make sure every tax dollar is spent carefully and deliberately.

I’m also grateful that the Constitution requires treaties to be ratified by the United States Senate.  It’s an important check in the balance of power when it comes to the co-equal branches of government.  Apparently, President Biden doesn’t feel that way because he’s trying to bypass Congress to resurrect the Iran Nuclear Deal. He clearly needs a refresher on the checks and balances created by the Founding Fathers, so I introduced a bill to do just that.

I discuss all this and more in the latest Week in Review:
