Week In Review: June 2 – 8 || Listen Up

June 9, 2023 | Blog, Week In Review

This week in Congress, there were some big updates on both the global stage and the local front, but they have one thing in common: they proved the importance of listening to those who are on the ground.

On the international level, after refusing to show the dissent cable that was sent by staff at the embassy in Kabul shortly before the withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Biden Administration finally allowed the members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee to read the document.  Having now seen it with my own eyes, I can tell you that Joe Biden should have listened to the diplomatic staff that was on the ground who understood the situation.

At the local level, the U.S. Coast Guard finally released a proposed test deviation for the St. Lucie River railroad bridge.  2,358 people from our community showed up in full force and shared their opinions about the proposal, and they heard us.  We made it clear that Brightline cannot steamroll the Treasure Coast and destroy our way of life.

Our government is of, by, and for the people.  It can’t function by ignoring the input of We The People.
