The fight for clean water in our community is one that we have day-in, day-out. Today was no exception. The head of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Lt. Gen. Scott Spellmon, testified before the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Water Resources & Environment, a panel that I sit on.
As I told the lieutenant general, every time I have the opportunity to discuss what’s happening with Lake Okeechobee, I’m going to do it.
From the hold up on implementing the Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual and the water releases from Lake O, the Army Corps owes it to our community to take steps to minimize harmful discharges that destroy our environment, slow down our local economy, and harm public health.
