Mast Demands Answers to Help Explain Glioblastoma Prevalence in St. Lucie County

Mast Invites Health and Human Services Secretary to Meet with St. Lucie County Families

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Brian Mast (FL-18) is calling on the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to help explain the prevalence of cases of glioblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer, in St. Lucie County, Fla.  In a letter to HHS Secretary Alex Azar, Rep. Mast called on the agency to expedite implementation of Trevor’s Law, a bill passed in 2016 to provide federal assistance for investigations into potential cancer clusters.

Despite being passed in 2016, HHS has not yet implemented the law.  In the letter, Rep. Mast also requested “an explanation for the delays in implementation of this law and a written response detailing all steps taken to date to implement” Trevor’s Law.  Furthermore, he urged HHS to coordinate with the Florida Department of Health and invited HHS Secretary Azar to meet the impacted families himself.

The full letter is attached.
