There’s no doubt about it: the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) reservoir is the single-most important project when it comes to cleaning up our waterways. Anyone who claims to support Everglades restoration should be fighting tooth and nail to get the reservoir finished.

And yet, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers just announced that it is years behind schedule. The Corps released its “roadmap…for planning [and] construction of both federal and state projects related to Everglades restoration,” and the EAA reservoir is not slated to be finished until 2032. That’s a major delay from previous plans that would have finished the project in 2028.

Actions speak louder than words. Whether it’s a failure to fully fund the EAA reservoir or continual delays in construction, it’s clear that the Biden Administration is not prioritizing Everglades restoration.

The EAA Reservoir has been described as “the heart of the Everglades.” It’s essential for the Everglades, and for our state as a whole. That’s why I’ll continue to fight for Congress to fully fund these projects and ensure that the EAA Reservoir is prioritized.
