The Washington, D.C. swamp is real.  And all the important information is hidden under the surface.

That is the case with the first and only Special Presidential Envoy for Climate (SPEC), aka the “Climate Czar."  John Kerry previously served as a senator for almost 30 years, then as the Secretary of State for four years, and was the Democrat nominee for president in 2004.  But these days, he’s got a new job, but it’s hard to say exactly what he does.

There is a lot of ambiguity in terms of his role: depending who you ask and on which day, he’s either an employee of the Executive Office of the President, or of the State Department.  On top of that, we don't even know who reports directly to him.  If my team and I were struggling to find this information, it is near impossible for the American people to know how their tax dollars are being spent when it comes to the Administration’s climate agenda abroad.  While they purport to be serving the American people, there is a clear lack of transparency in the office that is run by a career politician of nearly 40 years.

That is why the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight and Accountability held a hearing with Climate Czar John Kerry himself - to get to the bottom of it.  While we were able to get some vital details, it is only the tip of the iceberg.  Our fight for accountability and transparency is far from over.
