One of my most important responsibilities is keeping promises to the men and women who served our country. Earlier this week, I proudly voted to pass bipartisan, veteran-focused bills to do exactly that. These bills focus on cutting red-tape, modernizing benefits, and expanding opportunities for veterans and their families.

We voted on two major reforms aimed at improving education and workforce programs at the Department of Veterans Affairs: the Veterans Readiness and Employment Improvement Act and the VETS Opportunity Act. Together, these bills bring long-overdue updates to the GI Bill and job training programs to better complement how veterans live, learn, and work today.

Too many veterans who leave their service find themselves stuck in a complex system that makes building a civilian career unnecessarily difficult. This legislation intends to fix that. One bill strengthens the Veterans Readiness and Employment program by improving access to counselors, expanding training options, and making it easier for veterans to transition into good-paying and in-demand jobs.

And just as important, these bills recognize that not every veteran wants or needs a four-year degree. Many seek skill-based training, certifications, or technical education that lead directly into careers. These reforms provide veterans the flexibility to choose the path that works best for them.

Our veterans served for us, and I’ll make sure America continues to serve them.
