Let's honor our fallen heroes
In December, I wrote about my mission to pass a bill that would honor every servicemember who gives their life in defense of freedom:
“I remember every military funeral I have been to vividly: each crack of the gun salute, the slow, solemn hum of taps, the crisp folding of the flag and being handed to a family member with the words, "on behalf of a grateful nation." I know there is nothing we, as a nation, can do to repay the debt, but I know there is something we can do to truly show how grateful we are as a nation.”
“That’s why I have put forth legislation, the Final Honors Act, allowing any U.S. service member killed in action (KIA) to lie in state beneath the dome of the U.S. Capitol. This honor allows Americans to pay final tribute to those who have served our nation.”
Today, we’re mourning the seven American soldiers who gave their lives as part of Operation Epic Fury, and I’m renewing my call for passing the Final Honors Act and asking for support to give these heroes the attention and respect they deserve from our entire nation:
They’re my brothers- and sisters-in-arms—I’ll keep fighting until their families have the chance to honor their loved ones under our Rotunda. It’s the highest and most revered tribute Congress can authorize.
We can never repay them, but we can do more.
