After another productive week in Washington, from reopening our government to a major update on my “Medal of Sacrifice” bill, I’ve got another quick update for you. Let’s dive into all of it.
First, some good news: the government is back open. After Senate Democrats forced another partial government shutdown, House Republicans stepped in and did what Congress is supposed to do—govern. We passed funding to keep critical agencies like the Departments of War, Transportation, and State running, along with a short-term funding measure to ensure the Department of Homeland Security can continue essential operations. I remain confident we’ll soon deliver full-year funding that prioritizes border security, disaster response, and law enforcement.
This week, I was also proud to see the House unanimously pass my bill, the Medal of Sacrifice Act. This legislation ensures that fallen law enforcement officers and first responders are permanently honored with a presidentially awarded medal worthy of their sacrifice. Inspired by the tragic loss of three Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputies in one single moment, this bill sends a clear message: they will never be forgotten. The bill now heads to the Senate, and I’ll keep fighting to see it signed into law.
Watch all of this in this edition of Week in Review, plus an update on a recent meet-up with Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, at home in Florida.
