Medal of Sacrifice becomes law
Yesterday, I was honored to join President Trump in the Oval Office for the signing of my bill, the Medal of Sacrifice Act.
It all started on November 21, 2024 when we lost three lions of our community. Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies—Butch Waller, Dan Diaz, and Luis Paez—were all struck on the side of the road while on patrol—killed protecting our community.
After our community laid them to rest, President Trump and I spoke about the absence of any honor from our nation’s highest office for officers and first responders who give their lives in the line of duty. We set out to fix that—it’s how the Medal of Sacrifice was born.
The first three were presented in the White House one year ago to the families of Deputies Waller, Diaz, and Paez. And in February, I was honored to escort Mrs. Denise Waller—Butch's wife—to Washington as my official guest for the President's Address to a Joint Session of Congress.
To the families of the fallen across the Treasure Coast, Florida, and our country: your loved one's name will be spoken in the Oval Office. Your love one’s sacrifice will never be forgotten—not on my watch, and not on this President's.
