On the House floor tonight, I joined my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass legislation combating the growing opioid epidemic and restoring safety in our communities. The SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act of 2025 is a major step forward for families across the country who are affected by this crisis and the dedicated individuals who work in the medical and recovery field.

This bill is personal to me. When I lost both my legs serving in Afghanistan, one of the toughest battles I had to face was getting off the pain medication— after I left the hospital. I know how hard recovery is, and I know that those struggling in our community need support.

That’s why this legislation matters. The SUPPORT Act reauthorizes and strengthens programs that offer our district real solutions, like overdose-prevention initiatives, expanded treatment access, and stronger controls on prescription drugs. The South Florida Wellness Network, the Florida Center, and the Florida Center for Early Childhood all support the bill, and I am glad to have their back. The legislation also ensures that local nonprofits, health centers, and first responders can continue doing life-saving work.

I’ll keep fighting for those battling addiction, for their families and the values that lead to recovery: responsibility, faith, and community. Passing this bill means we’re one step closer to restoring safety and hope.
