This week, I worked with my colleagues to send an important letter holding Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer accountable for risking our military readiness and withholding pay from our troops. As veterans and reservists currently serving in Congress, we know it’s time to stop playing political games and support the continuing resolution (CR) the House passed nearly one month ago. 

What’s really at stake as this Democrat shutdown continues?

Here’s a quick run-down: 

• A clean, bipartisan CR passed the House floor on September 19th to keep the government open through November 21st at funding levels Democrats have previously supported 13 times. 

• But Senate Democrats—led by Chuck Schumer—are demanding $1.5 trillion in radical spending priorities instead of reopening the government.

• Meanwhile, the shutdown is damaging military readiness: training is halted, base operations are stalled, and our troops and their families are stuck in limbo. 

• VA offices are partially closed and veteran services are delayed—impacting thousands without access to benefits or counseling.
