For those of you who have called the Treasure Coast “home” for many years, you know that the state of our waterways hasn’t always met a high standard of quality. 

If you’re among the thousands of people who have moved to Florida recently, you’re probably one of the lucky ones who hasn’t experienced a toxic algae bloom firsthand. Consider yourself fortunate. The stench alone is unbearable. The water turns thick and green like guacamole and the air becomes difficult to breathe.

Thankfully, our coast hasn’t been pummeled by toxic water this summer. Every year we go without billions of gallons of polluted discharges is a step toward restoring our water quality. Year after year we work to put policies in place to stop these discharges. But make no mistake, The fight is far from over.
