If you had a piggy bank as a kid, you know that smashing the piggy bank was always a last resort. You saved the piggy bank for a rainy day. That’s how the United States’ Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) should be treated, as a last resort in case of a major geopolitical emergency. But unfortunately, President Biden has been tapping into the SPR and depleting its levels in order to protect his own political future.
Just this week, he announced that he will release another 15 million barrels of petroleum from the SPR, even as the reserve is at its lowest level since 1984.
This is a band-aid on an amputation.
There’s no doubt that we’re in an energy crisis. Gas prices are through the roof and folks in northern states are already preparing for increased heating bills. But this isn’t the result of a major geopolitical emergency, it’s the result of President Biden’s war on domestic energy.
He can blame Russia and Saudi Arabia all he wants, but until he reverses his energy policies, gas prices will continue to skyrocket.
Joe Biden can’t keep breaking the piggy bank when his poll numbers take a dive. He needs an actual plan to address the energy crisis.
