PASSED: Coast Guard Authorization Act
This week, the House passed the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2025 with overwhelming bipartisan support. And as a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I’ve supported this legislation every step of the way. From stopping illicit drug trafficking to search and rescue, oil spill prevention, and assisting our Navy, Coasties are standing on the front lines every day, keeping our nation—and our community—safe.
The bill takes some major steps to ensure the Coast Guard has what it needs to accomplish the mission:
-
Recapitalize the fleet; replace aging ships and modernize shoreside facilities.
-
Upgrade technology; invest in IT systems and allow for more next-generation autonomous technologies.
-
Protect service members; increase safeguards against harassment and assault and establish a Secretary of the Coast Guard for greater parity with other branches.
-
Boost accountability; improve transparency in acquisition and modernization projects.
The bill now moves on to the Senate for consideration.
America’s Coast Guard is always ready—and now, thanks to this legislation, they’ll be even more prepared.
