If you boat the Indian River Lagoon near Fort Pierce, mark your calendar. The U.S. Coast Guard has authorized a temporary schedule change at the old North Causeway Bridge starting Monday, August 3rd, to allow crews to tear down the old drawbridge as part of the Bridge Replacement Project.

The new bridge—the E.C. Summerlin Family Bridge—opened in May, and demolition of the old bascule span is one of the last steps in getting this project across the finish line.

Here’s what the schedule looks like: 

• Monday, Aug. 3rd at 7 a.m. through Thursday, Aug. 6th at 7 a.m.: the channel will be fully obstructed. No vessel traffic through.

• Thursday, Aug. 6th through Saturday, Aug. 8th: from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, the channel will be partially obstructed, including one 2-hour window each day when it will be fully obstructed. After 6 p.m., the channel opens back up.

• After 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8th: the temporary schedule ends and the channel returns to normal.

Plan your trips on the water around these closures, and give the crews and the work zone plenty of room when possible!
