It’s simple—entering the country illegally, driving under the influence and risking the lives of all those on the road should be grounds for deportation. Despite DUIs being a real danger to our safety, our current immigration laws do not treat these violations as grounds for deportation. This loophole must be closed. That’s why, last week, House Republicans passed the Jeremy and Angel Seay and Sergeant Brandon Mendoza Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act of 2025. The bill makes driving while intoxicated a deportable offense for illegal immigrants and bars them from entering the United States in the future.

This legislation comes at a time where we’ve seen a series of horrific events and an urgent need for action; the lives of Jeremy and Angel Seay and Sergeant Brandon Mendoza were cut short by senseless acts of tragedy. In both cases, the perpetrators were illegal aliens who were driving drunk. Even here in Florida, an illegal migrant murdered three Americans after driving more than 125 miles-per-hour while intoxicated. These tragedies should have never happened, and last week, I proudly casted my vote in honor of all the victims.
