WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representatives Brian Mast (FL-18), Alcee Hastings (FL-20), Lois Frankel (FL-21) and Ted Deutch (FL-22) released the following joint statement on the shooting that took place at the VA Medical Center in Riviera Beach, Fla. yesterday evening, which injured one person:

“We are sending our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the victim who was injured and all those affected by last night’s shooting at the VA Medical Center in Riviera Beach.

“One VA doctor sustained injuries and is now in stable condition. No one else was harmed and the suspected shooter is now in custody. We have been assured that the VA is taking the necessary steps to enhance security at the Medical Center and that FBI is on the scene leading the investigation.

“As Members of Congress representing Palm Beach County, we stand ready and willing to do all that we can to ensure the safety of our community, so that veterans can safely access services at the West Palm Beach VA.”
