WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Brian Mast (FL-18) today released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the first major tax reform bill since the 1980s:

“This is a great moment for our country and our community: the first major tax reform bill since the 1980s.  Every dollar less the government takes is a dollar more back in your pocket and this bill means the government will be taking a lot less.  By cutting tax rates, doubling the standard deduction and drastically increasing the child tax credit, our bill will put more money back in your paycheck and restore competitiveness for American Main Street!

“Our bill directly helps middle class families in the 18th Congressional District: not only will rates be lower for the middle class, but 70% of our district currently takes the standard deduction and this bill doubles that deduction; more than 40,000 taxpayers in our community claim the child tax credit and this bill will give them an even bigger refund; and for nearly two thirds of the filers that don’t use the standard deduction right now, this bill will allow them to simplify their tax filing by taking the new, massive standard deduction.

“The era of tax-more, spend-more politics in Washington is over!”
