New Resources To Prevent Suicide
Rarely does a day go by when I don’t talk to someone in our community who is struggling with their own self-worth. We absolutely must do more to help those who need it most and prevent suicide.
The good news is that the House of Representatives recently passed a number of bills to do just that, including:
- The National Suicide Hotline Designation Act to designate 988 as the National Suicide Prevention hotline, making it easier for someone to get help during a time of crisis;
- The Campaign to Prevent Suicide Act and the Suicide Prevention Lifeline Improvement Act to raise awareness for the 988 Suicide Prevention hotline and provide additional funding to ensure quality care is being provided to those who call;
- The Suicide Prevention Act to provide $250 million in funding to support state and local programs designed to prevent self-harm and suicide attempts
The bottom line is that these bills will help save lives in our community and across the country. Together, I know we can make a real difference in our fight to prevent suicide.
