The discharge of toxic water into our community is unnecessary and always has been.  The Army Corps’ own modeling data proves it. 

Over the past two years, the Army Corps of Engineers and the South Florida Water Management District have been working to rewrite the Army Corps’ regulations that determine if and when discharges to our community occur.  They’ve now presented more than 27,000 separate models on how water can be managed in Florida. These models prove that discharges to the St. Lucie are not needed.  Not just that, but the modeling shows that cutting off discharges to the St. Lucie can help improve water supply, send more water to the Everglades and improve the ecology of the Caloosahatchee.  

With all these benefits — and massive public health problems when discharges do happen — the Army Corps simply cannot continue to justify forcing this toxic water on us.

Now, on March 22nd, the Army Corps is set to present additional modeling data on the management of Lake Okeechobee. During this meeting, you have the opportunity to make your voice heard from the safety of your own home and help ensure that the Army Corps makes the right decision for public health, the environment, and Florida’s future.
