Why I voted YES: The Child Tax Credit
For families across the country, the Child Tax Credit is crucial. That’s why I was a proud supporter of the One Big Beautiful Bill which makes the Child Tax Credit stronger, simpler, and permanent.
Without the One Big Beautiful Bill, the Child Tax Credit was set to shrink dramatically at the end of this year—dropping from $2,000 to $1,000 per child. Millions of parents would have lost support and fewer families would have qualified as the income thresholds fell.
Congressional Republicans and President Trump stopped that tax hike in the One Big Beautiful Bill:
-
Makes the $2,000 Child Tax Credit permanent to protect families from a devastating cut.
-
Increases the credit to $2,200 per child from 2025-2028, giving families even more relief.
-
Indexes the credit to inflation starting in 2026 to ensure its value matches with the cost of living.
We’ve also made sure the Child Tax Credit goes to those who need it. Parents must provide a valid social security number for themselves and their children. For joint filers, both spouses must have work-eligible social security numbers. This protects taxpayers while keeping benefits strong for American families.
I voted YES on the One Big Beautiful Bill because it honors the hard work of American parents who sacrifice everyday to give their kids a better life.
