PASSED: the TRANSPORT Jobs Act
Yesterday, the TRANSPORT Jobs Act passed on the House floor—a bill that will deliver for America’s veterans while strengthening the backbone of our economy.
The Transitioning Retiring And New Service Members to Port, Ocean, Rail, and Truck (TRANSPORT) Jobs Act works for two reasons: it connects veterans with careers in trucking, rail, shipping, and logistics, and it helps to expand America’s supply chain.
There are few Americans better trained, more disciplined, or more mission-focused than the men and women who wore our nation’s uniform. But far too often, veterans return home only to face obstacles with finding employment. And we know our economy depends on strong supply chains. The bill will direct the Department of Transportation to target the barriers that prevent veterans from being hired and make the right recommendations to eliminate them. The result: more veterans in good-paying jobs, and a supply chain that keeps America moving.
It’s a win-win for America. I came to Congress to fight for our veterans and to ensure that America remains strong, secure, and prosperous. Supporting the TRANSPORT Jobs Act is one way I can proudly make good on that promise.
