When you pay your taxes, you aren’t thinking that those same dollars would be used to torture dogs.

And yet, according to recent reporting, tens of millions of dollars have been spent over the past 75 years specifically to breed puppies with hemophilia and other blood disorders in order to be test subjects and eventually killed.

This is no way to spend taxpayer money or to treat man’s best friend.  Our technology has progressed beyond a need for cruel and unusual testing and it’s past time that we end these inhumane experiments.

Together with Congresswoman Dina Titus (D-NV), I’m demanding answers.  The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (a division of the National Institutes of Health) needs to be held accountable for decades of cruelty.  The agency needs to disclose exactly how much money was spent on these tests and whether or not any dogs are still involved in these types of experiments.

I am committed to ending this taxpayer-funded animal abuse so that Americans aren’t forced to subsidize this kind of “research” ever again.
