Our police officers, firefighters and first responders put their lives on the line to keep our community safe. As law enforcement officers serve and protect us, we have a duty to ensure they have the tools needed to do their job safely.

But right now, under current federal law, our local police and firefighters receive less protections than federal law enforcement. Our laws need to recognize the risks associated with these jobs and give the men and women who accept the responsibility our full support.

That's why the House just passed a bill that I've been pushing for months called the Thin Blue Line Act. Our bill ensures that criminals who murder law enforcement officers - whether they are federal, state or local - face justice for their crimes.
