Responsible management of our waterways is not just an environmental issue.  It has a huge impact on our economy and our public health.  That’s why I’m continuing to fight for the resources necessary to restore the Everglades and stop toxic discharges.

When Congress began the process of funding the government for next year, I urged the Biden Administration to include $725 million for Everglades restoration in his budget request.  I was glad to have the bipartisan support of the Florida Congressional delegation in that request, but unfortunately, President Biden did not include the full amount in his budget.

Of course, the fight didn’t stop there.  Next, I requested the House Appropriations Committee to fund the program in full.  Once again, I was denied.

That leads us to today: I’m making another push to secure the funding needed for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to expedite construction of the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Southern Storage Reservoir and finish other projects that will restore the Everglades.  Today, I offered an amendment to the Energy and Water appropriations bill to increase funding for the South Florida Ecosystem Restoration to $725 million.

I’ll never give up the fight to get the resources we need, and I will keep you updated on what happens next!
