Florida water is essential to our way of life.  It’s what makes Florida great, and why so many people want to call it home.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), estuaries take up only 13 percent of the land area of the continental United States, but contribute 40 percent of jobs and 50 percent of the nation’s economic output.

On top of that, these ecosystems are amongst the most unique on the planet and are home to numerous species of animals and plants that can only be found in the estuaries.

That is why I introduced bipartisan legislation with Congressman Bill Posey to designate September 17 to 24 as the National Estuaries Week.  This designation is about recognizing the importance of our estuaries and demonstrating a commitment to public health, the environment and the economies that depend on them.

It’s an honor to represent the Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches, and I will continue to fight and protect our natural treasures.
