The atrocities in Syria have been well documented, and tonight, the House took action by passing the Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act. The bill is designed to stop the slaughter of the Syrian people, encourage a resolution to the conflict and hold Syrian human rights abusers accountable for their crimes.
The bill included a provision that I wrote to ensure Congressional oversight as the Administration evaluates future military action. My amendment, which was adopted unanimously, mandates that the Administration report to Congress on important aspects of military strategy. This is critical so that Congress can uphold our Constitutional responsibility to hold the Administration accountable on behalf of the American people.
