Right now, businesses operating completely within their state’s laws are being forced to run on cash alone, leaving them with no checking account, no card reader, and no basic banking. Why? The business sells cannabis products.

If a state establishes its own regulations, like deciding what can be sold legally, law-abiding enterprises who follow suit should not be punished. This is exactly why I’m a cosponsor of the reintroduced SAFE Banking Act. The fix is simple: we should let banks serve state-legal businesses without fear of federal punishment. We need to bring those dollars into a system where they can be tracked and kept away from criminals—because cash-only restrictions makes these businesses, its employees, and its patrons, all targets for crime.

We’ve passed this in the House seven times before, it’s time to get it over the finish line!
