The men and women who put on the uniform and risk everything to defend our nation deserve the best healthcare our country has to offer. Unfortunately, the VA too often fails to meet this standard of care, which is why I have prioritized this area so much during my time in Congress.

The good news is that the House recently passed the Department of Energy Veterans’ Health Initiative Act to improve healthcare services for veterans. This bill will require the Departments of Energy and Veterans Affairs to work together to analyze decades worth of data to help us better understand diseases, diagnose conditions and create treatment plans.

This will help us solve complex data problems using artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. While this sounds a bit convoluted, the bottom line is this: it forces these government agencies to work together for our veterans benefit. And increased focus on this issue is definitely a good thing!
