Today's Earth Day
Happy Earth Day! For all of us in Florida, taking care of our planet is synonymous with protecting our waterways, livelihoods, and way of life. It's never lost on me that everything we do today affects the Treasure Coast our kids and grandkids will inherit.
Since the day I was sworn into Congress, I've made it a priority to clean up our water, and this year, we're winning where it matters.
Earlier this month, the House passed the American Water Stewardship Act to reauthorize the EPA geographic programs our South Florida ecosystem depends on, like the National Estuary Program, through 2031.
And on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I'm focused on the 2026 Water Resources Development Act (WRDA), which is the single most important vehicle for Everglades restoration and improving our water infrastructure. The legislation Congress writes in WRDA locks in federal authorization for the resources, projects, and finances that protect our environment.
I also want to share an update on where things stand on one major project, the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Reservoir. When we introduced the idea ten years ago, everyone said it would never happen. We fought back anyway and it paid off: it’s five years ahead of schedule.
On Earth Day, and every other day of the year, I'll keep fighting to send the water south until there’s zero discharges into our estuaries—and thank you for standing with me.
