For decades and decades, the federal government has manipulated Florida’s water, killing the Everglades, sending harmful discharges to our communities and threatening Florida’s public health.
As a result, water ends up where we don’t want it and doesn’t go where we need it. In order to fix this problem, we need to complete the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan, also known as CERP.
But the problem is that the federal government hasn’t kept up their half of the deal under CERP, consistently underfunding these projects that we need so badly. I won’t allow this mess to continue unchallenged!
So, earlier this week, we finally got the House Appropriations Committee to increase Everglades Restoration funding to $200 million for next year - nearly triple the amount we received last year!
This is exactly the kind of historic commitment to Everglades restoration we need to jumpstart progress on these infrastructure projects and reverse this man-made, environmental and public health disaster!
In case you missed it, here are some other issues I worked on this week:
- 9 bills to help veterans passed the House with broad bipartisan support.
- I introduced The Improving Veterans Access to Congressional Services Act to empower Members of Congress to hold office hours in their local VA facility like at the West Palm Beach VA.
- We passed the SECURE Act to expand opportunities for Americans to increase their retirement savings.
