This week, we recognize National School Choice Week, and here in Florida, families have more educational opportunities than ever before. With more than 4.3 million students, Florida is a national leader in providing flexible K–12 options that put parents, not bureaucracies, in control.

Today, Florida families can choose from traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online academies, homeschooling, and even new options like microschooling or mix-and-match learning models. In 2026 alone, more than 3,100 schools and education organizations across Florida are partnering to help families better understand and access these choices.

At one time, Brianna and I chose to homeschool our children. That decision gave us the chance to teach them beyond the classroom—including invaluable civics lessons just by accompanying me to Washington, D.C. We’re grateful for that choice, and every family deserves the same freedom.

Whether a child attends a public school, a charter or magnet program, a private or parochial school, learns online, or is homeschooled, the goal is the same: giving families the power to decide what’s best for them. When parents are empowered, students succeed.
