Far too often, we hear about heartbreaking tragedies that could have been prevented if those involved had the chance to defend themselves.  The Second Amendment makes it clear that all Americans have the right to defend themselves and their families.

However, the far-left activists continue to try to take away this right under the pretense of safety.  In particular, they continue to move the goalposts on the National Firearms Act to regulate and confiscate more types of guns.  The most recent attempt makes it difficult to obtain short-barrel rifles and shotguns.

These short-barrel rifles and shotguns are well suited for home defense, as they are easier to control and use in close quarters.  In addition, there is no data that short-barrel rifles and shotguns are “more dangerous” than their full-size counterparts.  And yet, in order to purchase these types of guns, Americans are required to go through an additional layer of background checks - on top of the already rigorous checks to purchase a full-size rifle or shotgun.  These restrictions only make it more difficult for law-abiding Americans to defend their homes.

That is why I am co-sponsoring  the Home Defense and Competitive Shooting Act of 2021 and the No Frivolous Application for Short-Barreled Shotguns (NFA SBS) Act, which will remove short-barreled rifles and shotguns from the definition of “firearms” under the National Firearms Act, and treat them as any other full-size rifles and shot-guns.

It is absurd that after the radical far-left activists chanted “defund the police”, they now want to take away the ability of individuals to defend themselves.  I’ll continue to stand for the Second Amendment and the right to protect our families.
