Being the father of four rambunctious kids has been the single most important responsibility of my lifetime.  I know parents everywhere feel the same way.  That became perfectly clear as we saw stories of parents speaking up to ensure their kids have the best education possible.

After years of illogical, unscientific lockdowns in our schools, parents across the country became increasingly concerned about what is going on in their kids’ classrooms.  However, the result was teacher unions’ and their handpicked school board officials kicking parents out of the process altogether.  They even went so far as to treat concerned parents as domestic terrorists for speaking up at school board meetings.

For as long as humans have been walking on the surface of the Earth, parents have been teachers to their children.  Ignoring parents’ input on their kids’ education is neither normal nor acceptable.

That is why last week the House passed the Parents Bill of Rights to ensure that parents are not sidelined when it comes to the education of their children.  Here are the five basic rights the House Republicans outlined:

  1. Right to know what’s being taught in schools and to see reading material
  2. Right to be heard
  3. Right to see school budget and spending
  4. Right to protect their child’s privacy
  5. Right to be updated on any violent activity at school

Children are the future, and we will not let the teachers union and progressive school boards indoctrinate our children and put them at odds with their parents.  I will continue to fight for parents' rights because the education for our children is too important to mess up.
