It’s National Police Week, and I want to take this opportunity to share my appreciation for all of our law enforcement officers.

Being a part of the Thin Blue Line was never easy, but it’s gotten even more difficult in recent years.  Violent mobs chant “defund the police” and far-left politicians implement soft-on-crime policies.  As a result, our communities have become less safe.  In 2022, homicide rates went up by 48 percent, aggravated assaults and domestic violence incidents both increased by 4 percent, and car theft is up by 14 percent. 

Even police officers are victims of atrocious crimes.  73 police officers were murdered in 2021, and 123 officers have been shot in 2022.  With that in mind, it is no surprise that officers are resigning from their posts at a staggering rate–up 18% from last year.

We must continue to show support to these officers who are public servants sworn to protect and defend our communities. 

So, as we recognize National Police Week, I thank all our law enforcement officers.  I will continue to fight here in Congress to make sure that they have the resources they need to do their jobs and keep our communities safe.
