This Independence Day we celebrate the day we forever altered the future of this world for the better. The day we declared we would be a free, independent nation. In our 244 years of achievement, America has proven to be the greatest nation the world has ever seen. A collection of imperfect people fighting every day for a more perfect union.

In a time of unrest, we must remind ourselves what it means to be an American. We have fought wars for freedom from tyranny. We stand up in the face of those who seek to terrorize our country. We are willing to die for the opportunity to pick ourselves up to any height.

We must remind our country that there is no greater opportunity than the freedom every man, woman and child wakes up with in America under our 50 stars and 13 red and white stripes.

Today we celebrate how far we have come. Today and everyday, may God bless these United States of America.

In case you missed it, here are a few other things that happened this week:

  • I helped introduce bipartisan legislation to help small businesses reopen in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
  • I testified that we have an obligation to hold China accountable for their mishandling of the coronavirus.
  • House Democrats – with a straight face – passed a bill that would limit the number of drugs that come to market in the middle of a global pandemic.
