Combating The Opioid Epidemic
We’ve been working on legislation to expand access to resources for those struggling with addiction. This week the House of Representatives passed three pieces of legislation that will help us build on the progress we’ve made, including:
- The State Opioid Response Grant Authorization Act, which authorizes $1.59 billion dollars annually to help state and local government’s combat the opioid epidemic;
- The Block, Report, and Suspend Shipments Act, which directs drug makers to notify the DEA of suspicious opioid orders; and
- The FENTANYL Results Act, which authorizes $4 million dollars annually to establish a multi-national program to combat fentanyl trafficking.
There is still a lot of work to do to save lives and end this epidemic, but I’m hopeful that these bills will make a real difference. As always, if you or a loved one is struggling with addition, please do not hesitate to contact our office for additional resources by calling 202-225-3026.
