In the last year alone, Israel has been hit by more than 2,600 rockets and mortars with more than 1,500 of them being fired from the Gaza Strip. Numerous innocent Israelis and Americans have been killed at the hands of terrorist organizations like Hamas.

But this week, rather than stand alongside Israel, the House of Representatives chose to pass a resolution that would undermine our support for Israel. Disguised as a resolution working to support a two-state solution, this bill casts blame on our Israeli allies for the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. I strongly oppose this politicization of what should be strong and unanimous support for our strongest ally.

Instead of spending time on geopolitically-damaging, political stunts, it’s past time for the House of Representatives to stand up against extreme anti-Semitism and the BDS movement.

That’s why I filed what’s called a discharge petition, which would require Speaker Pelosi to schedule a vote on a bill to condemn this movement and support our greatest ally. This legislation passed the Senate with strong bipartisan support (by a vote of 77 to 23), and I have no doubt it would also pass the House with bipartisan support if it were brought up for a vote.

That’s all the more reason why Speaker Pelosi’s decision to put politics ahead of rational policy is a disservice to global security and our great ally Israel.
