WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Brian Mast (FL-21) led a cadre of House Republicans in introducing legislation requiring foreign aid packages display an American Flag. The American Flag for American Aid Act is backed by Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (FL-27), Rep. James Baird (IN-04), and Rep. Michael Lawler (NY-17).

“U.S. taxpayers provide billions in international assistance every year, but many of the recipients of that aid have no idea where it comes from,” said Rep. Mast. “President Trump understood better than anyone how important the American Flag is as a symbol of freedom around the globe. It’s one of our best tools for building goodwill abroad.”

“The American flag is a symbol of freedom for millions of people around the world,” said Rep. Salazar. “We should display the stars and stripes proudly at every possible opportunity.”

Various agencies have found workarounds to President Trump’s December 2020 executive order requiring all foreign assistance be branded to denote it came from the American taxpayer. This bill addresses these workarounds and focuses on USAID, the largest delivery vehicle for foreign aid.
