Fighting toxic discharges from Lake Okeechobee has not always been easy, but that has never stopped us before, and it’s why this week I took our fight to Washington, D.C.

Earlier this week, Congress held a hearing at my request on Everglades Restoration and Lake Okeechobee management. This hearing was critical to get it on the record that we will not allow our community to be used as the septic tank for their taxpayer funded water storage!

Additionally, we successfully fought back against the Army Corps this week and got them to reverse their decision to begin toxic discharges. Avoiding discharges so far this summer is a big win for our waterways and our community.

Our fight is far from over, so it’s time to get back to work and prevent these discharges moving forward!
